INSIDE THE BOOK

About this book

OpenCL Compute is a hands‑on introduction to heterogeneous programming, teaching developers how to harness the combined power of GPUs, CPUs, and accelerators using the OpenCL framework. The book breaks down the OpenCL execution model, memory hierarchy, kernel development, and performance optimization techniques. Through minimal working examples and clear explanations, readers learn how to write portable, high‑performance compute code that scales across devices and vendors. Ideal for programmers, researchers, and students looking to unlock parallel computing without being tied to a single hardware ecosystem.

This is the one to get

A genuinely enjoyable read that also taught me a great deal.

A colleague recommended this and I can see why. It does something that few technical books manage: it respects the reader's time. The chapters on parallel programming are the strongest — the examples are stripped down but complete, and I could follow along without constant guessing. The author avoids over-explaining, which keeps the pace up but means you need to pay attention. If you have the prerequisites, this is an easy recommendation. I will be keeping it on my desk rather than the shelf.

Worth every page

A superb guide. The examples are small but complete.

I bought this on a whim after seeing it mentioned in a forum thread, and I am glad I did. The explanations are careful without being condescending, which is a difficult balance to strike. The exercises at the end of each chapter are worth doing — they caught a few misconceptions I did not know I had. I have already recommended it to two colleagues and will recommend it to more.

Good value, minor gaps

Good book. The writing is direct and the author is honest about limits.

I came to this book already familiar with the basics, and it still had plenty to offer. The balance between theory and practice is well judged; neither side dominates. I particularly liked the way the author builds up from simple cases before introducing the harder material. Some of the material is available elsewhere, but rarely presented this clearly. Good value for the price and worth the time it takes to work through properly.
