Highly recommended

Exactly the book I needed. Straight to the point and genuinely useful.

This is the third book I have read on javascript this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. I particularly liked the way the author builds up from simple cases before introducing the harder material. The code samples assume a particular environment, which took a bit of fiddling to get running properly. The author avoids over-explaining, which keeps the pace up but means you need to pay attention. An easy five stars from me. I look forward to whatever the author writes next.

Well worth picking up

Solid and well-organised. A couple of chapters dragged a little.

I have been working with javascript for a few years now and I still found plenty here that was new to me. The author avoids over-explaining, which keeps the pace up but means you need to pay attention. The explanations are careful without being condescending, which is a difficult balance to strike. A couple of chapters felt like they could have been merged, but that is a minor complaint. Worth picking up if you already have the basics. Set realistic expectations and you will get a lot out of it.

Decent, but uneven

Not quite what I expected from the description, but there is material here.

This is the third book I have read on javascript this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. The chapters on javascript are the strongest — the examples are stripped down but complete, and I could follow along without constant guessing. I found myself making notes in the margins, which is always a good sign. Three stars feels about right. It will stay on my shelf, but it will not be the first one I reach for.
